Alberto "Al" L. Chia

Alberto L. Chia "Al" Saginaw Township, Michigan Al passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Covenant-Cooper. He lived 74 beautiful years. Al was born October 20, 1941 in Havana, Cuba, the son of the late Alberto and Margit (Westelius) Chia. He married Wilma L. Cooper on March 26, 1971; they've recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. Al served in the U.S. Army and was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church where he was a Prayer Warrior and a devoted Usher. He spent the majority of his life working in the Hospitality industry as a hotel manager, where he knew every employee by name and was highly respected and beloved. He loved a good challenge, was genuinely interested in those he met, and travelled extensively for both business and pleasure. Later in life, he, with his wife Wilma, owned and operated Originally Ours Flowers & Gifts. Today, his son, Al Jr., carries on the family business as Rockstar Florist. In his youth, Al lived to snorkel, race motorcylces, and watch a good match of boxing. When he wasn't working, Al enjoyed spending time with family, telling a good story, or relaxing over a tasty beverage. A few days before his passing, he left his loved ones with a final word of wisdom: "I'm more and more convinced that the older we get, the closer we are to home." Surviving besides his wife, Wilma, are three children, Al (Kelly) Chia Jr; Billy (Sarah) Chia; Don "DJ" (Sarah) Chia; six grandchildren, Eve, Ashlyn, Brian, Katie, Chelsea and Chris; one great grandchild, Bear; two sisters, Virginia (John) Harper; Alicia Kartuzinski; several nieces and nephews. One brother Charlie Chia predeceased him. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3724 Adams Blvd. Saginaw, MI. Rev. Paul Hinz will officiate. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday and then on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
