Alejandro Cortez Gonzalez, age 20, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on April 20, 2025, while vacationing in Cancun, Mexico.
Alejandro was born on August 24, 2004, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Matt and Renee (Perro) Gonzalez. He graduated from Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy (SASA) in 2022. He was currently studying at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit. His love of art started with painting in his early years and developed into a love for fiber arts and textiles in college. Alejandro often used art as a way to explore who he was and who he was becoming. He created many self portraits in various mediums over the years. He loved to create art in his day to day life, creating fabulous latte art at all the coffee shops where he worked. He showed his appreciation for other artists by encouraging local artists to display their work wherever they could.
Besides his love of art, he had a great appreciation for music. He loved to listen to music of all genres and from various eras. He’d recently started a collection of vinyl records and CDs. His love of music wasn’t confined to listening, he also loved to create music. Alejandro took piano lessons as a child, and used the skills he learned there to play keyboard at Saginaw Wesleyan Church as part of the praise team.
The only thing he loved more than art and music was his friends and family. Alejandro was loyal to those he loved. He cared deeply about those who made an impact in his life. He maintained a strong relationship with friends from High school (some from elementary school even), though college and life separated them geographically. He made new friends in college, and in the few years he was there, he had already left a lasting impression.
Alejandro was taken from this world too early, but in the only way he would have allowed, saving a friend.
Alejandro is survived and will be missed by many, including his loving parents, Matt and Renee Gonzalez, and his siblings, Isaac Gonzalez and Evalynn Gonzalez; his grandparents, Manuel and Nancy Gonzalez, and Leona Tossey; great-grandmother, Joyce Perro; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and numerous dear friends.
Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Grace Valley Church, 4570 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603, where friends may visit with the family from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
