Alex Chavez passed away suddenly at Covenant Hospital on May 12, 2018, at age 91.
He was the son of Mercedes and Ranulfo Chavez. He was born May 7, 1927. He served with the US Army/Navy. He married his beloved wife, Mary Pauline Liguez November 29, 1958; she survives him. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and retired from General Motors after 37 years, working in Skilled Trades as a Journeyman in Tool and Die. He was formerly a member of the American G. I. Forum. He was a guitar player and a jazz enthusiast. He loved airplanes and flying and was an avid reader.
Cherished father of son, Michael J. Chavez, Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Patricia A. Duffy (Vincent P.), Chicago. Survived by siblings: Rose Garcia (late Joseph), Juan Chavez (Julie), Robert Lopez (late Victoria). Predeceased by sisters Margarita Cirilo (Domingo) and Virginia Garcia (late David). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Helen Church, 2445 N. Charles Street, where his family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, until the time of Mass. Rev. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate. Military honors under the auspices of the G. I. Forum and US Navy will take place immediately following the Mass. Private committal services will take place later.
