Alex Oviedo

Our loving father, son, brother and uncle passed away peacefully, with his family at his side on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the age of 64 years. 

Alex was born on March 30, 1960, son of Frances (Garcia) and the late Francisco Oviedo, in Saginaw. His educational path led him to St. Lawrence Seminary in Wisconsin pursing the Catholic Priesthood. He later graduated from Central Michigan University having earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. The passion for educating led Alex to school districts from Detroit Public Schools to many in the Great Lakes Bay area. Over the years Alex had been active with many Chicano organizations and was very proud of his heritage. Alex enjoyed researching his genealogy connecting with many distant relatives. He was a vault of knowledge, an avid reader, liked to cook, enjoyed watching Michigan Football and the Detroit Lions, listening to music and dancing with that big smile. Alex will be remembered for his warm heart, loving spirit, making family first, his sense of humor and being the greatest father to his daughter Frances. 

Alex will be sorely missed by his daughter, Frances M. Oviedo (Joshua Byrd); mother, Frances Oviedo; brothers and sister, Frank (Louisa) Oviedo, Jr., Aurora Oviedo (Joseph M. Herek) and Manuel (Lucinda) Oviedo; his former spouse and mother of his daughter, Barbara C. Oviedo; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; uncles and aunts, Tom (Diana) Garcia, Lupe Oviedo, Micaela Stoll, Rose Juarez, Emma Lopez, Esther Oviedo, Simona Oviedo; many cousins, other relatives and friends. Besides his father Francisco, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Inez (John) Bull, Federico Garcia, Teleforo (Jesusa) Oviedo, Aurora Oviedo, aunts and uncles, Lucy Hernandez, Alice and Carlos Mata, Maria and Rudolph Rueda, Sr.

Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Fr. Frank Voris, O.F.M. Cap. Will officiate. Friends may visit the family at the chapel from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning and expression of sympathy may consider memorial donations in care of his daughter, Frances M. Oviedo.
