Lichtenwald, Alexander Saginaw, MI Loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at the age of 88 years. Alexander was born March 3, 1926, the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Kaiser) Lichtenwald. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War receiving numerous medals. He married Elizabeth (Roesler) Meier on May 18, 1963; she predeceased him July 16, 2014. His son Leroy Meier passed away in 2012. Alex worked at Lufkin Rule then retired from the C & O Railroad. He looked forward to spending time with family and the annual Christmas Eve dinner for over 50 years at his home. He enjoyed golf, bowling, the casino, woodworking, and making things for his family. He achieved a 300 game in 1962 and a hole-in-one in 1999. He is survived by his daughter, Karen (William) Zinck of Merrill; daughter-in-law, Sandra Meier; granddaughters, Marti (Rick) Risk, Tracy Francetic, Charlene Samson, Diane (Don) Counts, and Carolyn (Steve) Gwisdalla; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; his brother Victor Lichtenwald; brother-in-law, Chuck Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, one sister, and their spouses. Funeral services will take place at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at W.L. Case & Company 201 N. Miller Road. Rev. Richard E. Mundt will officiate with military honors rendered by VFW Post #1859 of Carrollton. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
