Alicia "Alice" Guevara of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper. She was 89 years old. Alicia Guevara was born on September 2, 1932, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Bartolo P. and Francisca (Mendoza) Guevara. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School. Following graduation, she attended Delta College and later Saginaw Valley College where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. Alicia was employed as an elementary school teacher with the Saginaw Public Schools District for over 18 years of loyal and dedicated service. While teaching, Alice earned her master's degree in elementary education from Saginaw Valley State University. She was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she actively participated in the Women's Club. Alice was also a member of the League of Catholic Women. She had a servant's heart and volunteered her time with Covenant HealthCare - Harrison, Community Village on Hospital Road, and the Bethseda Thrift Shop. Alice enjoyed watching her novelas (Mexican soap operas) every day on television. She had a kind, caring, and selfless spirit and made sure to always visit family and friends in nursing homes. Over the years, Alice became a fan of women's basketball; always cheering for her favorite teams, the University of Michigan and Central Michigan University. Above all, Alice loved and cherished her family and was always ever present at every family gathering. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor and her ability to befriend and communicate with all people.
Surviving are three brothers and four sisters: Ralph M. (Elena Rae) Guevara of Clio; Sr. Marie Rachael, O.P. of Dearborn, Ofelia (Thomas) Burrows of Oak Park, CA; Gilberto (Guadalupe) Guevara of Saginaw; Virginia Guevara of Saginaw; Juanita (Frank) Medel of Birch Run; Arturo (Angela) Guevara of Freeland. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Rafael, Miguel, and Jesse Guevara.
A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. Sixth Street. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris OFM Cap will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with Alice's family at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
