Alma J. Westphal Saginaw, Michigan
Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at her home with her family at her side, at the age of 90 years. Alma Jane Worthington was born on March 6, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Earl and Ruth (Eppley) Worthington. She graduated from Pontiac High School with the class of 1947. She married the love of her life, Ralph N. Westphal, on June 5, 1948 in Pontiac, Michigan; he preceded her in death on April 25, 1996. She was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Helen Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking, shopping, and cherished trips to the casino with her friends and family. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her great-great-granddaughter, Vanessa.
Surviving are her children, Gregory Westphal, Debby Ames; granddaughter, Lisa Ames; great-grandchildren, Kaliann Esckilsen (Justin Karp), Drake Esckilsen; great-great-granddaughter, Vanessa R.J. Karp; sisters, Naomi Thomas, Patricia (Vernon) Carter; a special friend, Marjorie Drake. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Alma is preceded in death by her sisters and brother, Laura (Cloyd) Hassinger, Virginia (Charles) Miles, James (Virginia) Worthington; brother-in-law, Claridon Thomas, and friend, Ron Drake.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Pastoral Associate Tori Little will officiate with burial to follow at St. Andrews Cemetery. Friends may call to the funeral chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Salvation Army.
