Pobanz, Alva May Saginaw, Michigan Passed away on January 3, 2016 at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 99 years. The daughter of the late Frederick and Ethel (Wylie) Brandon was born on October 1, 1916 in Bad Axe, MI. She married Thomas Charles Pobanz on June 18, 1938; he predeceased her on November 11, 1996. Alva was a member at First United Methodist Church in Saginaw. She was active in the church activities at Mt. Hope Methodist of Detroit, three square dancing clubs, and volunteered at the Detroit Receiving Hospital. Alva also was active at senior citizens centers in Lincoln, Novi and Saginaw areas. She enjoyed camping, traveling, playing card games, reading and University of Michigan Football and Detroit Tigers Baseball. During the summer months Alva liked to spend time at the family cottages in Traverse City and Lincoln, MI. Surviving are her son and daughter and their spouses: Ross (Ronnie) Pobanz of Indian River, MI; Bonnie (Patrick) Dole of Saginaw, MI; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Pobanz of Ann Arbor, MI; two foster children, Kathy and Margie Watkins; four grandchildren: Marnie (Mike) Tarhanick, Megan (Nick) Demeester, Laura (Dave) Watenpool, Dennis Dole; five great-grandchildren: Riley, Alyssa, Tommy, Abigail, Maxwell; and several relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Alva was predeceased by her son, Thomas Fredrick Pobanz and three brothers and two sisters. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Kathryn S. Snedeker will officiate with burial to take place later at Colfax Cemetery, Bad Axe, MI. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
