Alvin C. Thom Stanton, Michigan Formerly of Saginaw Beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away Friday, November 27, 2015, at his home. Age 95 years. The son of the late Martha (Beyersdorf) and Otto Thom was born July 1, 1920 in Midland, Michigan. He married Mary Lou Thomas, September 19, 1943. She passed away August 21, 2009. Alvin served with the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. He was a graduate of Michigan State University, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Education and Master's degree in Education- School Administration. He served and retired as Superintendent of Swan Valley School District. He enjoyed traveling, spending time at his cottage at Crystal Lake and especially spending time with his grandson, Charlie Buskirk. Surviving are two sons, one daughter and her husband, Alvin C. (Chuck) Thom; Mark E. Thom; Patricia A. and Larry Buskirk; his grandson, Charles Thomas Buskirk; his sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Howard Heilbronn; several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Violet Smiley and Betty Ruth Voss have predeceased him. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. Pastor Roger Day will officiate with Military burial in Oakwood Cemetery under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #1859. Friends may call at the Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 1:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral service.
