Anita Say Scherzer

Passed away April 4, 2018 at HealthSource Saginaw. Age 82 years. The daughter of the late Dr. David L. and Martha Say, was born June 10, 1935 in East McKeesport, PA. She graduated from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and later earned a Master Degree in Choral Conducting from Syracuse University. While at Westminster College, Anita performed in several concerts at Carnegie Hall in NYC. She served as Minister of Music at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church for 30 years. After retiring she continued teaching piano and voice in her home. She performed with the U of M Choral Union and Festival Choir for several years. Later preforming with the Donald Bryant Singers in Ann Arbor. She served on the Board of Director of the Saginaw Community Concert Series for over 30 years. Anita was a member of St Peter Lutheran Church, Hemlock and an Associate member of First Presbyterian Church, Saginaw, where she was a member of the choir. Surviving are her husband of 43 yrs., Rockwell, Daughters Catherine (Jeff) Brink of Holland, Ml and Martha (Victor) Gomez of Saginaw, and son Charles David (Shawn) Pietz of Saginaw. Grandchildren: Hannah and Christian Brink, Logan, Payton and Lawton Pietz and Gabriel and Grace Gomez; a sister, Cythianne Calhoun, Chautauqua, N.Y. She was also predeceased by a brother, Samuel. Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Rd. Hemlock. Rev. Richard Mundt and Rev. Martin Hagenow will officiate with private committal service in Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and then on Saturday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
