Anna Helen Vedrode Merrill, Michigan Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014, at St. Francis Home. Age 93 years. Ann was born June 6, 1921 in Wheeler, Michigan, the daughter of the late Anna (Lednicky) and George Mikusko. She married Louis A. Vedrode, August 13, 1945. He survives her. Ann was truly the "mother" of her extended family starting with taking care of her six siblings as a teenager when her own mother died young. She was always ready to lend a hand not only to her family, but also to all her friends. She was known as a great baker and everyone eagerly awaited her poppy seed rolls. She fed legions of students at Merrill High School and ran a successful catering service. She created many beautiful quilts with her friends, loved playing cards, going to the casino and watching the Detroit Tigers. Ann was a devout Catholic and extremely active in Sacred Heart Church in Merrill, donating boundless energy and time to her church. She was a beautiful lady who enjoyed life and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Surviving are her husband, Louis, and her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ed Beckenbach, North San Juan, CA; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Joseph and Jackie Mikusko; two special nephews, Robert Clark and Jimmy Vedrode who took loving care of her in her later years; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, her sisters, Margaret (Marge) Gensch and Helen Foote, her brothers, Edward, George and Robert. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held at Noon Monday, August 18, 2014, at St. John XXIII Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 419 S. Midland St. Merrill, MI. Rev. Duane Wachoviak will officiate. Friends may call at the Church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass.
