Anne Marie Baumgarten of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved mother and aunt passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Covenant HealthCare. She was 96 years old. Anne Marie Nauman was born on October 12, 1923, in Spaulding Township, the last of nine children born to the late Peter and Barbara (Kranacher) Nauman. She met the love of her life, Robert W. Baumgarten on a blind date in 1946. They fell in love and were united in marriage on September 8, 1948 in Saginaw; he preceded her in death on November 10, 1993. Anne was proud to be one of the very first women to be hired at Lufkin Rule, retiring as an end grinder after 25 years of service. She fondly remembered that some of the rulers she made were sent to space on both the Gemini and Apollo missions. Following her retirement, Anne assisted in caring for her mother-in-law at their home. On August 8, 1980, she began a second career as a kitchen aide at Tendercare of Saginaw; retiring in 2004 at the age of 80 years. She was of the Catholic Faith and raised her two daughters in the tradition. As a young woman, Anne enjoyed photography and belonged to a local photography club. She loved baking and was fondly remembered as the "cookie lady." She also enjoyed crocheting, especially the many baby blankets she created over the years. Anne also cheered for the Detroit Tigers, or as she called them, the Detroit Pussycats. Above all, she treasured and cherished the time she spent with her daughters and family.
Surviving are two daughters: Kristyne Baumgarten of Saginaw; Marsha Baumgarten and her companion, Ron Allen of Prudenville; favorite nephews: Frank Nauman of Spaulding Township; Ed (Diana) Nauman of Thomas Township. Also surviving are one nephew, two nieces, many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
