Anthony "A.J." Jesse Slaughter III
Saginaw, Michigan
Passed away, at his home, on May 2, 2024. A.J. was 71 years old. He was born on June 3, 1952, in Detroit to Norman and Delores Slaughter .
His diverse educational background included graduating from Northwestern High School in 1970 with pride and pledging Omega Psi Phi at Bethune Cookman College. A.J. also earned a BS degree in Human Resource Management and Economics and a degree in Audio Engineering to further enrich his knowledge. On November 27, 1976, A.J. married Michelle K. Neal in Detroit.
He led a remarkable life defined by service and excellence. A.J.'s military journey was nothing short of extraordinary, beginning with Army ROTC, followed by enlisting in the US Army. He showed immense bravery during several tours of duty in Vietnam, earning two Purple Heart medals for his wounds and a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action. Upon an honorable discharge from the Army, A.J. selflessly reenlisted in the Marine Corps until his honorable discharge in 1978.
In 1980, he founded Falconhurst K9 Training and assumed the role of Training Director, displaying his passion for dog training alongside his many interests such as grilling, amateur boxing, and fitness.
Friends and family remember A.J. for being prideful yet family-oriented, direct yet compassionate when providing help; he was known as a stern but fair taskmaster who approached life with tenacity and dedication. A.J.'s life was a tapestry woven with valor, dedication, and love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Michelle Slaughter; their children: Aaron James and Mackenzie Ross; additional children: Craig and Kamika Grimes, Derek Rawlings; grandchildren: Arianna, Armani, and others; three brothers: Neal "Ted," Steven, and Phillip "Butch." A.J. was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI with military honors to follow. Pastor Julian Gonzales to officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Monday at the funeral chapel from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
