Arline Phylis Gillam Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Ashley Care Center with her family at her side. Age 98 years. The daughter of the late John and Selma (Witkopp) Gaulden, was born on September 5, 1921 in Lead, South Dakota. Arline graduated from Arthur Hill High School. She married John L. Gillam on August 26, 1944 in Saginaw, Michigan; he preceded her in death on November 29, 1969. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and traveling. Arline enjoyed life and loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and spoiling her pets.
Surviving are one daughter and her spouse; Kimberly and William Kaufmann; four grandchildren, Andrew (Rachel) Gillam, Clayton (Mary) Kaufmann, Ashleigh (Joe) Shaw, Rebecca Kaufmann; five great-grandchildren, Isabel, Katelynn, Natalie, Clare, Samantha; one step great-great-granddaughter, Sylvia. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her husband, Arline is preceded in death by one son, Gary S. Gilliam; one sister, Eunice Wieland; and one step-sister, Ruth Dellinger.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, 2nd and Federal Ave. Rev. Carl Ballard will officiate with burial to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday; and again from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the church. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
