O'Dell, Arthur W. Bridgeport, Michigan Passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014, at his home. Age 90 years. He was born February 25, 1923, in Bridgeport on the family farm where he lived all of his life. He was the son of the late Robert and Christina (Katzenberger) O'Dell. He served with the US Army during World War II, in the European Theater, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired from the US Postal Service after 34 years of service as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of DAV Chapter 4. He was active in the 4-H for over twenty years. He was very active in the Saginaw County Fair where he worked for over 50 years and served on its Board. He liked fishing, camping, gardening and spending time with his family. He married Clara H. Rose on July 25, 1945; she predeceased him January 14, 1991. Surviving are four children, Viola Smi giel, David and Judy O'Dell, Michael and Marilou O'Dell, and Stephen and Christine O'Dell; twelve grandchildren, David Smigiel (Rose), Andrew Smigiel, Heather and Jeffrey Shoopman, Tom and Jennifer O'Dell, Abigail and Daryl Gross, Rebecca and Terry Peters, Patrick and Trisha O'Dell, Stephen and Rachel O'Dell, Jason O'Dell, Melissa O'Dell, Sarah O'Dell, and Nathan O'Dell; ten great-grandchildren, Joseph, Diego, Emily, Aaron, Sophia, Brody, Charlotte, Aidan, Logann and Carter. A great-grandson, Jacob, predeceased him. He also leaves one sister, Arvilla Sargent; many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by seven brothers, George, James, Winfred, Elmer, Robert, Oliver and Donald O'Dell. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Highway, where his family will receive friends from 2:00 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and then on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Peter Wolf will officiate the funeral. Burial will be in Oakgrove Cemetery and Rev. Elias Mumbiro will perform the committal. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Birch Run VFW Post #7542.
