Barbara Ann Bates

Barbara Ann Bates Of Saginaw, Michigan formerly of Wabash, Indiana Went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2019. She was 83 years old. Barbara Ann Lewis was born on August 6, 1935 in Wabash, Indiana to the late John and Blanche (Jordan) Lewis. She was married to James Earl Bates on October 2, 1965 in Wabash, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2006 after 41 years of marriage. Barbara retired from Jacobson after 30 years. She was an active member of Bethel AME Church. Barbara was also a member of the neighborhood watch. She loved to crochet and was known for making Christmas stockings. She is survived by a brother, Edward (Debrah) Lewis; a godson, Jason McBride; very special friends, Sheila McBride, Betty Mertz, Janice Reed and the Martinez Family; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. A Homegoing Service will be held at noon on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 535 Cathay St.Saginaw, MI. Rev. Dennis Laffoon will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Bethel AME Church.
