Barbara Brockett

Our beloved mother (momsy), grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on August 21, 2024. Barbara was 89 years old.

Barbara Lou Kretz was born on June 27, 1935, in Swan Creek, Michigan, to the late George and Elizabeth (Calin) Kretz. Barbara married Douglas Warner Brockett on September 14, 1957. They celebrated over 65 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 25, 2022. Barbara worked at RCA and Lufkin Rule in Saginaw before leaving the workforce to provide a loving home for her husband and three children. When her children were older Doug and Barbara bought Blackmar Grocery, where they served their local community for over seven years. Barbara loved children and often opened her home to provide day care services for family and friends. She was also generous with her home and offered many family members a place to live when they needed a temporary home. She was known for her generosity, giving, and patient nature. She was kind to everyone she knew or met. Barbara was an excellent cook and was known for her delicious cabbage rolls and famous German potato salad. She enjoyed watching the birds out her window for hours at a time. She also enjoyed watching game shows on tv or just sitting quietly listening to music.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memories, three children David (Connie) Brockett, Dawn (Rock) Rose, and Kerri (Roman) Prexl; five grandchildren Andrew, Matthew, and Michael Brockett and Randell and Cassandra Hall; six great-grandchildren; a sister Sharon (Jim) Howell and two brothers George (Ellie) Kretz Jr. and Darrell Kretz. Also surviving are many loved nieces, nephews, and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents George and Elizabeth Kretz; and seven siblings Ken, Jacquie, Elaine, Gloria, Beverly, Tom, and Betty.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Living Water at Buell Lake for all their wonderful help during her time of need.
