Barbara Jo (Smith) Strong

Barbara Jo (Smith) Strong passed away October 12, 2023, at home on hospice surrounded by family.

She was born May 25, 1939, to Bernice G. Rutledge. Barbara married Sidney D Strong II on August 3, 1957, and they shared 61 years of marriage while living in Merrill. Barbara was active in the Merrill Congregational Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and taught Vacation Bible School. She was also active in the Senior Choir. Throughout her life she was a recess aid and worked at Art’s IGA in Merrill wrapping meat. She then ended her employment as a cashier for Siler’s Meat Market. Barb enjoyed knitting, painting woodwork, quilting, and baking for the holidays. She loved spending time with her family and having cookouts and pool parties made her the happiest.

She leaves behind two daughters, Denise Siler and Vicki Strong, both of Merrill; two granddaughters, Carrie (Jeff) Nohel of Perry and Holly Bigelow (Joel Hutfilz) of Merrill; six great grandchildren, Jeffery (Sarah) Nohel of Montrose, Jace Nohel of Owosso, Cameron Nohel of Perry, Cassidy, Khloe, and Caidenn Cooper of Merrill; and two great-great grandchildren, Norah Nohel and Jack Nohel.

Preceding her was Sidney D. Strong, II, son Sidney Dennis Strong, III, and brother Oran Smith.
