Benjamin J. Burns Sr.

Benjamin J. Burns Sr. Merrill, Michigan Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather went home to the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2016, at the age of 81. Benjamin was born August 9, 1935, in Fremont Twp., Michigan to the late Benjamin and Emily (Kratchenil/Miller) Burns. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Benjamin married Shirley Granger on November 17, 1956; she survives him. He retired from General Motors after 37 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and watching all the ball games. He was an avid gardener and delighted in giving away the food that he grew. Besides his wife Shirley he is survived by his children, Beverly Nichols, Janet Johnson, Benjamin (Ruth Ann) Burns Jr., Catherine (Jody) Emery, and Marilyn Burns; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and his sister Catherine Payne. He was predeceased by his many siblings; and by his son John E. Burns. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016, at W.L. Case & Company 201 N. Miller Rd. Fr. Dennis J. Kucharczyk will officiate with private entombment at Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from11:00 a.m. until the service.
