Benjamin Andrew Paulson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, colleague, teacher and friend, passed away at his home on December 30, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born on November 15, 1940, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to the late Philmer and LaVerne Paulson.
A graduate of Albert Lea High School, Benjamin obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Minnesota Mankato, where he majored in Chemistry and Physics. He worked on his doctorate at Michigan State University, where he found his passion for computer science.
Benjamin dedicated his entire professional life to Delta College, serving as the Director of Computer Services. His work earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and students alike; in 1997 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the international Data Processing Management Society.
Ben’s enthusiasm for life was grounded in his love of family and friends as well as his lifetime passion for antique cars and football. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rejeana Heinrich. They were united in marriage on September 15, 1984. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, an irreplaceable bond that weathered both joys and challenges.
Benjamin was the proud father of two children with former wife Jean Kathryn Paulson: Andrea (Phil) Couture of Coeur d'Alene, ID, and Benjamin Jason (Schuyler) Paulson of Henderson, NV. The joy of being a grandfather was one of Benjamin's greatest pleasures, as he cherished moments spent with his grandchildren, Ella and Lincoln Paulson.
In addition to his immediate family, Ben is also remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, on both the Paulson and Heinrich sides of the family, whose lives were enriched by his presence and guidance.
Ben was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland.
Those wishing to honor Ben may make a contribution to the Delta College Foundation, for scholarships to Computer Science students.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held later in the spring. Arrangements were entrusted to W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603.
