Bernardo "Barney" Guzman of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, and papa passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 17, 2023. He was 69 years old. The son of the late Asencion and Martha (Gomez) Guzman, Bernardo was born on August 20, 1953, in Saginaw, Michigan. He is survived by the love of his life, Yolanda (Castañon) Guzman, who he married on May 10, 1975, and celebrated 48 years of marriage. Bernardo was a proud dad and loved being a "papa". His greatest joy was celebrating his children and grandchildren's accomplishments.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Yolanda Guzman; four daughters and their spouses, Angelita (Joe), Lisa (Derrick), Carissa (Shaun), and Christina (Jason); 18 grandchildren, Makayla, Kacey, Bernardo III, Liam, Ean, Amara, Simón, Dominic, Uriah, Marcia, Aria, Cristina, Eleyna, Ellie, Aiden, Mari, Laurel, and Chloe; three brothers: Henry (Alice) Guzman of Saginaw; Eduardo Guzman of Saginaw; Jose (LaShawn) Guzman of Toledo, Ohio; mother-in-law, Carmen Castañon; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Marta Guzman, John (Margaret) Castañon, Armando Castañon, Elena (David) Ortiz Sr., and Cristina (Michael) Castañon. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bernardo Guzman Jr; his parents, Asencion and Martha Guzman; a brother, Asencion "Jr." Guzman; sister, Helen Guzman; great-grandpa, Simón Guzman; sister-in-law, Sylvia Castañon; as well as many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to extend a HUGE thank you to his brother and cousins, Henry Guzman, Llolanda Teneyuque, Rosa Fulgencio, and Bobby Guzman for their support during his time on hospice and in the hospital, as well as to his primary care physician of 28 years, Dr. Ruth Licht, who has taken exceptional care of Bernardo.
