Bertha Pavelka Saginaw, Michigan Mrs. Bertha Pavelka, age 91, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at her home in Saginaw, MI.
Bertha (Gombar) Pavelka was born January 19, 1927 in Mojtin, Slovakia, and was married to Frank A. Pavelka, November 28, 1953. Mrs. Pavelka was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Parish - SS. Peter & Paul Church, First Catholic Slovak League of America Lodge 780, Saginaw County League of Catholic Women, and a former member of St. Gerard Catholic Church of Lansing, Michigan. Bertha loved to be outdoors. She was an incredible gardener and an excellent cook. She was very talented at sewing and needlework, was very devoted to her Catholic faith, active in her parish, enjoyed fishing, and made the world's best pie crust. Bertha brought beauty and generosity to the world with her incredible garden, cooking, baking, and canned goods, which she shared with everyone she knew. Bertha is survived by her beloved daughter, Margaret Ann Pavelka; her brother and his wife, Benjamin and Geraldine Gombar; sister-in-law Marion (Pavelka) Manos; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors across the U.S.A, Canada and Europe. Bertha is predeceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank A. Pavelka; beloved parents, Laurence and Katarina (Salamon) Gombar; brother, Rudolf Gombar, and sister, Frances (Gombar) Svihel. The funeral liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at St. Dominic Catholic Parish, SS. Peter and Paul Church, 4735 West Michigan Ave. Saginaw. Rev. Steve Gavit will officiate with burial in Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Cemetery, Standish. Friends may call at the Church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the funeral liturgy.
