Izzo, Bethany Burke (Bethke) Hemlock, Michigan Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away quietly early Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Covenant Harrison. Age 61 years. Bethany Ann Burke was born August 15, 1952, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Sally (Spencer) and Edward Burke. She graduated from Hemlock High School with the Class of 1970. She also attended Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University. In her early years, Bethany had worked at Opportunity Casket Company and St. Mary Rectory. She was an accomplished baker, and baked cakes for weddings and other special occasions. She later was employed as a cook at Hemlock Public Schools. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hemlock, its Altar Society, and taught catechism there. She also enjoyed sewing and loved spending time with her granddaughters. She married Ronald H. Bethke on December 1, 1972; he predeceased her November 2, 1994. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Gretchen and Brian Schulte, Oakley; Jordan and Shiloh Bethke, Delta Junction, Alaska; three granddaughters, Madalyn, Aubrie and Logan Heidi Schulte; brothers and sisters, Jeffrey Burke, Portland, OR; Melanie and Roy Kade, Freeland; Kip and Vickie Burke, Herron; Alison Burke, Saginaw; Wendy and Loren Preuss, Germany; Tracey Burke, Saginaw; Heather Mothersell, Bay City; Darren and Jane Burke, Kentwood; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Betty Bethke and Barry and Linda Bethke; many nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Heidi Harvey; a sister-in-law, Susan Bethke; and her mother-in-law, Arlene Erskine. Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock, where her family will receive friends from 3:00 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, and then on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Rev. Fr. Duane Wachowiak will officiate. Private committal will take place later in St. Mary Cemetery, Hemlock.
