Beloved Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Aunt passed away Friday, May 11, 2018. She was 89 years of age. Betty E. VanBocxlaer was born February 18, 1929, in Saginaw to the late Leonard and Ruth (Hafner) VanBocxlaer. After high school she worked at Saginaw Furniture, where she met William Valeck. They were married on September 17, 1949, and they thereafter enjoyed 68 years of marriage until Williams death on December 13, 2017. For many years Betty was Williams indispensable co-worker at Valecks Standard Station on Saginaws east side and later at Valecks Amoco/Sunoco stations in Shields, primarily performing the bookkeeping functions of the business. Betty had a variety of interests and hobbies, including bowling, golf, bingo, card playing, puzzles, camping, and snowmobiling. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Eagles Club, and the Polish Falcons. For many years she served as a volunteer at James Township area voting precincts. Betty is survived by: two daughters, a son and their spouses, Bonnie (Ken) Clark, of Saginaw, Brian (Sue) Valeck of Freeland, and Becky (Bryan) Dietrich of Freeland; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Ken (Julie) Clark, Jr., David (Stacy) Clark, Andrew (Kari) Clark, Sara (Will) Ellis, Melissa (Chris) Oates, Jeremy (Taeia) Valeck, Zach (Jennifer) Valeck, Gavin Dietrich and Spencer Dietrich; twelve great-grandchildren, Emmalee, Taylor, Jacob, Caleb, Addison, Avari, Chloe, Liam, Jedediah, Lily, Hudson, and Amelia; a great-granddaughter who is soon to be born; many nieces, nephews and their spouses; a brother, Alvin (Joyce) VanBocxlaer; and a sister-in-law, Donna VanBocxlaer, and her beloved dog Buddy. She was predeceased by a brother, Erwin VanBocxlaer; a sister, Leona (Richard) Hak; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul (Letha) Valeck, John (Mae) Valeck, Joseph (Helen) Valeck, Katherine (Michael) Tomich, Anna (Arthur) Pylar, and Janice VanBocxlaer. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2018, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Road. Pastor Paul Biber will officiate with entombment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call on the family at the W. L. Case Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
