Betty Qualman Spence Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Monday, December 10, 2012, at Edgewood Manor. Age 98 years. The daughter of the late Olive (Stiber) and Walter A. Qualman was born June 22, 1914 in Saginaw, Michigan. Betty was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1932 and the University of Michigan, Class of 1936. She taught in the Saginaw School system for several years at South School. She married Robert S. Spence in 1939. He passed away in 1989. She was a member of the Junior League, the Saginaw Country Club, Saginaw Club and First Congregational Church. She loved spending time at their cottage at Point Lookout, bicycling, boating, watching tennis and playing Bridge. Surviving are three children, Robert S. Spence Jr. and his wife, Jane, Saginaw, MI; Barbara Qualman Spence, North Carolina; Richard Walter Spence, Saginaw, MI; eight grandchildren, Robert Spence III; David Spence; Brian Spence; Richard R. Spence; Peter B. Spence; Kathy Grant; Kristy Grant Hibbard and her husband, Andrew; Kimberly Grant; a great grandson, Mason Grant, a great granddaughter, Ashlyn Mochen; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack W. and Amy Qualman; Walter A. and Donna Qualman; Thomas W. and Charlotte Qualman; Robert S. and Ardath Qualman. Mrs. Spence's family will receive friends from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw rd. Private committal service will take place at Oakwood Mausoleum.
