Beulah Marie Voorheis

Beulah Marie Voorheis of Lansing

Passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023, at Wellspring Senior Living in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born October 28th, 1928, in Hemlock, to the late Ernest R. & Ilda (Floud) Voorheis, and was a 1946 graduate of Hemlock High School. After high school, Beulah continued her education, earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Central Michigan University in 1950 and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1953. She was a lifelong educator, spending over 32 years in the Lansing School District where she taught Physical Education and later Mathematics. In her free time, Beulah enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Pratt Lake in Gladwin, genealogy, and taking photos of barns throughout the region, as well as watching Tigers baseball and MSU Basketball. Beulah was very giving with her time, volunteering throughout Lansing for Sparrow Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and Southside Community Kitchen where she earned the 1st Theresa Lenhard Volunteer of the Year Award after 25 years of service. She absolutely adored gardening, spending over 25 years with the Garden Club of Greater Lansing where she tended to the Scott Center Sunken Garden until she finally “retired” at age 87. Beulah is remembered as a structured and disciplined person who knew how to take care of her own affairs, and as someone who was deeply spiritual, spending her entire life as a devoted member of the United Methodist Church. She was a fiercely independent woman who loved to adventure on her own throughout the world. She was outspoken, a great conversationalist, and always made sure to let you know she cared about you.

Beulah is survived by numerous nieces & nephews; great nieces & nephews; and great-great nieces & nephews; as well as many other family members and friends that she made through her many years as an educator and volunteer.

Beulah was preceded in death by siblings Herman Voorheis, Lucille Yahn, Ernest D. Voorheis, and Ilah Mesler.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Wellspring Hospice Team and to the wonderful clergy that tended to her spiritual care.

In accordance with Beulah’s wishes, cremation is to take place, with a Celebration of Life will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 18, 2023 at Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 N Aurelius Rd, Holt, with Rev.
