Blaine Henry Trombley
A Patriot and a pillar of his community, Blaine Trombley also relished his role as just plain dad to his girls. Mr. Trombley was born on August 6, 1916, to Donald Trombley and Sarah (Fisher) Trombley in Saginaw. Passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the age of 103 years. He married Beulah "B" Hilts of Tawas City on December 27, 1941. "B" passed away in 2003. They were married 63 years and had four daughters. That branch of the Trombley family tree now includes seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Blaine Trombley proudly served his country in two wars, World War II and Korea. He spent nine years on active duty with the U.S. Navy. Skipper of P.T. Boat 127, Squardon 12 in the Pacific in World War II, he was also the Naval Control Shipping Officer of Seattle during the Korean conflict. He later served as Executive Officer of Surface Division 9105 in Saginaw in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Mr. Trombley was a member of Saginaw Highs 1933 graduating class and subsequently attended Bay City Junior College, Cornell University and the University of Michigan, but his intellectual curiosity never left him. He continued to attend classes and lectures on a vast array of subjects the rest of his life. A banker by trade, he retired as the president of Mutual Savings & Loan Association after 33 years of service in 1981. He continued as a member of the banks board of directors following his retirement. Mr. Trombley was a life member of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan, also belonged to the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, Disabled American Veterans, Bay City Board of Realtors, Kochville Township Board of Education, the Kochville Lions Club and was a life member of B.P.O.E. No. 88 of Bay City. He was also active in the United Way of Bay County, taught U-M Extension Service real estate appraisal classes and served as a Scoutmaster for an Explorer troop in Saginaw. Some of his favorite pursuits include playing golf and bridge and he continued those into his 90's. He also enjoyed reading and travel. Blaine enjoyed playing bridge with his friends in the OLLI group at SVSU and appreciated the interest they all took in his health and well-being.
Mr. Trombley is survived by two daughters: Sarah Suchodolski (and her husband Jack) of Star Valley, Arizona, and Deborah Trombley of Saginaw Township. Going ahead to prepare the way for him in the next life was his beloved wife, "B"; two daughters: Elizabeth Pozenel, Mary Kay Knoerr; his parent; a sister, Sally OSullivan; and a brother, Jack Trombley.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Pastor Robert G. Schmidt will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Navy and American Legion Post #439. Private committal will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorials to a charity of the donor's choice.
