Bonnie Mae Royal

Royal, Bonnie Mae (Johnston), age 85, a long-time resident of Hemlock, passed away on December 16, 2015, at MediLodge of Midland. Bonnie was born on June 20, 1930, in Merrill, the daughter of the late Stuart and Isabelle (Wilson) Johnston. On January 19, 1952, in Saginaw, Bonnie married Harold Royal, who preceded her in death in 2008. Together, Bonnie and Harold owned and operated Royal Landscaping for 50 years. Bonnie also worked for Michigan Bell as a service representative for several years and was a member of Hemlock United Methodist Church. Bonnie was a gentle sweet spirit, who had a kind word for everyone she met and was loved by all who knew her for the love and kindness she showed others. She enjoyed spending time with numerous friends both here and while wintering in Bradenton, FL. Although she was fond of reading and gardening, camping and craft shows, her true passion was her family. Between 1956 and 1969, Bonnie and Harold adopted a total of eight children, all as infants. She readily and joyfully embraced the extra effort required as each child joined the growing family; a remarkable testament to her tremendous energy and loving heart. Bonnie is survived by seven children, Daryl (Jennifer) Royal, Wayne, MI; Judy Beyersdorf, Hemlock; Dean (Nancy) Royal, Kapaa, HI; Jill (Jim) Warner, Hemlock; Donald (Kelly Leddy) Royal, Saginaw; Jennifer (David) Wilson, Midland; and Joan (John) Beckwith, Princeton, TX; also survived by 21 beloved grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Melinda) Johnston, Saginaw; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Harold; son, Dennis Royal; brother Dalvan Coger; and three sisters, Florence Uribe, Cora Sue Powell, and Alberta Sayan. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to MediLodge of Midland for many years of dedicated care, and also to Heartland Hospice for their compassion and assistance during Bonnie's final days. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, at W. L. Case Funeral Home, 201 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw, MI 48609. Funeral services to take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 21, at Hemlock United Methodist Church, 406 W. Saginaw St. (M-46/Gratiot), Hemlock MI, 48626, with a visitation preceding the service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Bonnie's memory may be made to Heartland Hospice of Bay City or Methodist Children's Home Society of Detroit.
