Brunner, Bruce Bridgeport, Michigan Passed away Wednesday May 29, 2013 at covenant Cooper at the age of 87 years. Bruce was born in Jamestown New York on November 3, 1925, son of the late Bessie (Anderson) and Merle Brunner. He was baptized on November 17, 1925. He graduated from Falconer High School (NY) in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the Armed Service (ASTRP) where he attended Syracuse University for one semester. He transferred to the 42nd (Rainbow) Infantry Division and served in Task Force Linden from the Battle of the Bulge through France, Germany and Austria. Bruce then transferred into APO 541 at Salzburg, Austria where he served as a postal clerk for the European Theater. During this time he attended the Mozart School of Music and completed one semester at the University at Zell am Zee, Austria. Returning to the U.S., he married Lois Norton (deceased) on August 31, 1946. After graduating from the University of the State of New York in Albany, he taught high school at Mt. Upton New York. He then received his Master's Degree in Education from New York University in New York City. Bruce then joined the work force with General Motors in 1952 at Chevrolet-Aviation Engine, Chevrolet Forge and Chevrolet Foundry and retired from Chevrolet Nodular Foundry at Saginaw Michigan in 1980. On August 15, 1970 he married Violet (Boltz) Dvorsek. His many interests include church, youth activities, camping and lapidary work. He has been an active member of the Bridgeport Community Church, VFW Post 9931, American Legion Post 0150, Moose Lodge # 1072 FLA, General Motors Employees Club, The Legionnaires and the Elks Club. Bruce will be remembered as a caring husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Violet Brunner), his five daughters and their spouses Corine (David) Freeborg, Schwartz Creek Michigan; Barbara (Ed) Auzins, Napoleon Ohio; Debra (Greg) O'Connell, Grand Blanc Michigan; Marilynn Armstrong, Bridgeport Michigan; Joyce (Pete) Makrianis, Bradenton Florida; his eleven grandchildren Lionel Frady, Adrienne Smith, Robert Armstrong, Jennifer Freeborg, Jessica Freeborg, Timothy O'Connell, Christopher O'Connell, Aaron Auzins, Amanda Auzins, Melanie Auzins and Melissa Makrianis; three great- grandchildren Tayler Paige Smith, Peyton Herron and Kai Auzins). A daughter, Sharon Lee Frady, a sister, Glone Brunner and a brother, Richard Brunner predeceased him. The funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday June 3, 2013 at Bridgeport Community Church 3821 State St. Bridgeport. Pastor Ronald L. Sinclair will officiate with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the V.F.W. post 1859. Friends may call at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral 5700 Dixie Hwy. on Sunday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and then on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at the Church.
