Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, great-great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Covenant HealthCare-Harrison. She was 97 years old. Caritina Torres was born on March 5, 1927, in Lockhart, Texas, to the late Jose and Delfina (Villegas) Torres. While working at the local theater handing out popcorn, she met the love of her life, Albert F. Garcia. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on December 15, 1946; he preceded her in death on March 18, 1993. The role of her lifetime, one she treasured and cherished above all others, was to be a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Carrie was a gifted and talented tailor and seamstress, creating all her children's clothing, costumes, and even designing upholstery. She was a longtime, faithful, and devout member of St. George Catholic Church as well as the cluster churches of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Carrie was a superb cook and loved feeding anyone and everyone. Whether it was her family, friends, or someone off the street, she showed her love through feeding others. Her little piece of heaven was spending time with her family. A tradition she created and was very proud of was gathering at her home following every Sunday Mass to cook, eat, and enjoy each other's company. Carrie will forever be remembered for the unconditional love and compassion she had for all she loved, for her honesty in telling things as they were, for her joking and wonderful sense of humor, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
