Passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Healthsource Saginaw at the age of 86 years.
Carl E. Sian was born December 5, 1929, in Saginaw to the late Joseph and Mary (Mott) Sian. He was employed by GM Malleable Iron for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He married Lorraine Jankowski on July 31, 1976, and she survives him. Carl had many interests in his life including carpentry, gardening, canning, and Detroit Tiger games. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Carl served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was very involved with the activities of the area VFW and American Legion groups and served on their honor guards for a combined total of over 25 years. He also assisted with the VA Trust and was a volunteer at the Aleta Lutz VA Hospital. Carl enjoyed refurbishing trophies for presentation to participants in the Special Olympics. Of his many interests, Carl most especially loved the time which he spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great, great-grandchild.
In addition to his spouse Lorraine, Carl is survived by four children, Norma Schmandt, Robert (Maria) Sian, Kenneth (Nancy) Sian, and James Sian; nine grandchildren, Amy (Gene) Morrison, Lisa (Jeff) Slancik, Joshua (Virginia) Hernandez, Micaela Ontiveros, Olivia Sian, Bobby Sian, Hanna Sian, Kevin Inman, and Natalie Inman; thirteen great-grandchildren; a great, great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eight brothers, four sisters, and two children, Carl Sian, Jr., and Sally Sian.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Anthony of Padua site, 3680 S. Washington, Saginaw, MI. Rev. Fr. Thomas Schmied will officiate with military burial of ashes at Forest Lawn Cemetery under the auspices of VFW #1859. Friends may call at the W. L. Case Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and then on Tuesday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the Liturgy.
