Carlota (Canales) Trevino

Carlota (Canales) Trevino of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. She was 91 years old. Carlota Martinez was born on February 15, 1930, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Jose and Aurora (Rocha) Martinez. She married Eugene Canales on September 3, 1949, in Wisconsin; he preceded her death on September 29, 1967. Carlota later married Felix Trevino in 1971 in Saginaw, Michigan; he preceded her in death March 14, 2019. She worked in production for Vlasic Foods serving 22 years until her retirement. Carlota was a longtime faithful member of St. George Catholic Church. She was a superb cook and the queen of making tamales. What made Carlota an extraordinary cook was that she knew how many cups of love, dashes of care, and pinches of kindness were needed to make all meals taste great. She also enjoyed quilting and working in her garden tending to her beautiful roses. Over the years, Carlota selflessly opened her home to anyone in need. Whether it be a place to stay, someone to lean on, or to gain independence in rough times, she left her indelible mark in this community by helping others. Above all, she loved, treasured, and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. Carlota will forever be remembered for her innate ability to connect with everyone, especially children; her indomitable spirit; and her compassion to bring everyone together with love and without judgement.

Surviving are seven children: Alexander (Aurora) Canales of Jenison; RosaMaria Mejia of Saginaw; Jose (Diana) Canales of Saginaw; Olga Pilar of Saginaw; Fernando (Jerrylin) Canales of Sacramento, CA; Antonio (Kristie) Trevino of Saginaw; Rebecca Howard of Saginaw; a special daughter-in-law, Diana Canales of Bridgeport; daughter-in-law, Cathy Rose Canales of CA; three stepchildren: Allen Trevino of FL; Wilma Trevino of KY; Jose Trevino of Saginaw; 38 grandchildren; 99 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; and her best friend/sister, Connie Diaz. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by four children: Julian Canales, Connie Yrlas, Eugene Canales Jr., Margarito Canales; two sons-in-law: Rudy Pilar Jr. and Willie Howard Jr.; daughter-in-law: Catherine Trevino; four brothers and three sisters.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Barton Woods Assisted Living and Covenant VNA Hospice for all the love and care they provided to Carlota and her family.
