Carol Jean Fortier of Saginaw, Michigan

It is with great sorrow that our family announces the passing of Carol J. Fortier, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. At the age of 86, Carol passed away on April 23, 2025, with her family by her side.

Carol was born on July 9, 1938, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Russell and Caroline Kennedy. Carol married Larry D. Fortier on October 15, 1955, they were married for 59 years before his passing in 2015. Carol worked at Saginaw Community Hospital for 30 years in the dietary department. Carol was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, doing word find puzzles, and reading. Carol and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida.

Carol is survived by her three children: Renee (Dave) Waldron of Saginaw, Larry (Diane) Fortier of Traverse City, Cassie (Rich) Vervinck of Saginaw; 19 grandchildren: Amy (Renny) Rohde, Melissa (Steve) Moore, Jeremy (Jamie) Waldron, Ashley (Brent) Fortier, Aaron (Grace) Fortier, Randall (Cherish) Griebel, Christina (Jake) Ennis, Mike (Monique) Vervinck, Mitch (Marissa) Vervinck, Jeff (Missy) Waldron; 23 great grandchildren: Emma (Hunter), Miranda, Deion, Logan, Brianna, Austin, Nick (Tina), Chase (Lisa), Linkenn, Sebastian, Hudson, Jayce, Cole, Kayden, Connor, Owen, Oaklynn, Otto, Chase, and Caleb; three great-great-grandchildren, Oliver, Maisyn, Maggie; two sisters: Mary Frost and Sharon (Tom) Johnson; one brother: Jerry (Debbie) Kennedy: three furbabies Smokie, Bubba, and Marley. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her very special friend and caregiver, Virda.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband Larry, her parents, Russell and Caroline Kennedy, 11 siblings, 3 granddaughters, and 1 great grandson.

The funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd., Saginaw, MI 48609. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate with entombment in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw, MI 48609, on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
