Carol Sue Hopkins (Ruediger) Saginaw, MI, formerly of Greenville, MI Carol Sue Hopkins died peacefully Sunday evening, March 10, 2013, after a lengthy illness at the Cartwright Care Center with her family at her side. The daughter of Marcus and Irene (Major) Ruediger, she was born December 8, 1953, in St. Johns, Michigan. She became a child of God through Baptism, December 1953, in Marion Springs, Michigan; her grandfather, the Rev. Gerhardt Ruediger, presiding. She married Mearl Hopkins, Jr. September 9, 1989, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oakley Michigan. He survives her. Formerly of Greenville, Michigan, she lived in Saginaw at the time of her death. She was a lifelong member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, and currently a member at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Saginaw. She had taught Sunday school and was a choir member. Carol attended Dr. Martin Luther College, New Ulm, MN. She was employed as a secretary all of her life, first in the Saginaw County Treasurer's office, then as administrative secretary at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, and most recently as an instructional services assistant at Montcalm Community College, Sydney, MI. She retired in March after twenty-two years at the college. She loved to travel with Mearl around the state, attending family reunions, dancing, fishing, camping, spending time with family, especially her nieces and nephews. She leaves two step-children, Teresa Hopkins, and Chris (Jennifer) Hopkins, eight grandchildren, 1 great grandson. She is also survived by her mother, Irene Ruediger, St. Charles; sisters Paula (Harold) Cooper, St. Charles, Lorraine (Kenneth) Goward, St Charles, Deborah Bunker, Saginaw, and brother, David (Pamela) Ruediger, Parsons, West Virginia, 22 nieces and nephews including her Godchildren Natalie Thiel, Lisa Oehring, Bethany Ruediger, and Erich Wicke, and 38 great nieces, nephews, several aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her father, Marcus Ruediger, brothers-in-law Melvin Wicke and Michael Bunker. Carol loved her Lord and was an inspiration to all for her steadfastness, faith and courage. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Court and Bond Sts. Rev. William Brassow will officiate with burial at Brant Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. on Tuesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
