Carole Ann Kiefer, 78, Saginaw, MI, a kind and caring person, completed her earthly journey on March 21, 2021.
Cause of death was complications from Alzheimer’s.
Carole and her husband, Michael recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Survivors in addition to Michael include daughter, Amy (Michael) Metz, Clarkston, MI; son Joseph (Sara) Kiefer, Grand Blanc, MI, and grandchildren Andrew and Susanna Metz and Elizabeth and Ethan Kiefer.
Also surviving are brothers Robert (Holly) Dekema, Eagle Harbor, MI, and Brian Dekema, Kalamazoo; sisters-in-laws, Patricia Kiefer, Seymour, and Sally (James), Indianapolis, IN; nephews Aaron, Kalamazoo, and Rusty, Ypsilanti, MI; nieces Cathy, Jane , Julie, Sarah, and Ann, all of Indianapolis; many extended family members and friends, and special friends Linda Mattson, Les and Marion Tincknell, and Brent and Karen Gaudreau.
A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Carole is predeceased by her father, Richard Dekema, and mother, Dorothy Dekema, both of Kalamazoo, and cherished grandmother, Lillian Lyon, Allegan, MI.
A long-time teacher in the Saginaw City School District, Carole served her students at the former Salina, Morley, and Coulter elementary schools. A graduate of Parchment, MI, High School, she earned a B.S.in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University, and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Saginaw Valley State University.
Carole was a member of Michigan Education Association Retired Teachers; the environmental group, Lone Tree Council, Bay City, MI and the Saginaw Family YMCA.
She was a founding partner of the Montague Inn, Saginaw, serving as its initial innkeeper.
Carole was a member of the Cathedral of the Assumption of St. Mary (Saginaw) and an ardent student of A Course In Miracles, a self-study program whose underlying premise is that the greatest “miracle” is gaining a full “awareness of love’s presence” in ones’ own life.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Carole’s life will take place at a later date.
