Oppermann, Catherine A. "Cathy" Saginaw, Michigan Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at HealthSource, Saginaw, after a lengthy illness. Age 71 years. Catherine Ann Lauer was born June 24, 1941, in Detroit, the daughter of the late Laurence and Phyllis (Allender) Lauer. She married John E. Oppermann on January 9, 1960. They celebrated 53 years of marriage this past week. She worked for over 20 years in the bowling business, starting in the snack bar at Stardust Bowling Alley, and working up to Coach of the Year for Michigan. Along with Corky DeGraff, she ran the biggest summer bowling league in the country, The Ox Roast. She also worked at Kohl's for five years, before ending her career at Oppermann's Cork & Ale, making hundreds of gift baskets. Cathy was known for her infectious laugh. She never met a stranger. She was well known for her pies and cookies. She loved cruises and camping in Michigan State parks. Cathy always put her family before herself. Surviving are her husband, John E. Oppermann; four sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Jeannie Oppermann, Saginaw, Scott and Debbie Oppermann, Tallahassee, Florida, Matt and Susan Oppermann, Muskegon, and Jamie and Jessica Oppermann, Boyne City; six grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel (fianc Larry Long), Michael, Taylor, Mikayla and Bryson; one brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sheila Lauer; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends; and her beloved Dachshunds, Maggie Mae and Bear. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Kevin. Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
