Cathy Mae “Aunt KK” Varney of Hemlock, MI
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at the age of 62 years. The daughter of the late William and Mary Jane (Eichler) Anderson was born on August 25, 1957 in Saginaw. She married Gary A. Varney on May 22, 2004; he survives her. She was a proud alumni of Central Michigan University and would proclaim “Go Chips!” to anyone wearing CMU apparel. Cathy even held season passes for CMU football. She worked as a benefits coordinator in the health insurance industry from which she retired. She was of Methodist faith. Cathy was an avid volunteer for the community and was on the board for the Underground Railroad. An avid nature and outdoor lover, she was an avid fisherwoman- even a master angler! Cathy cherished viewing her “postcard” which was the beautiful scenery of her property. Her greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren. Cathy was known for her generosity and will be deeply missed.
Surviving are her husband, Gary Varney of Hemlock; daughter, Krystal (Joseph) Slaybaugh; step-children: Melanie Varney, Jamie Varney, Sara Mendoza; grandchildren: Kiersten Mae Tilot, Cassidy Loren Tilot, Amberleigh Morris; brother, Joseph (Norma) Eichler; sister-in-law, Sandra (Paul) Reis; and deeply missed by her mother-in-law, Frances Varney. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Due to the world-wide health crisis private services will take place on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 with burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Underground Railroad, American Cancer Society, or a church of the donor’s choice. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family through www.casefuneralhome.com.
