Charlene Martha Hock of Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Toni & Trish House in Auburn. She was 80 years old. Charlene Martha Zastrow was born on June 16, 1942, in Hemlock, Michigan, to the late Clarence and Hilda (Hutfilz) Zastrow. She was a proud 1960 graduate of Hemlock High School. Following graduation, Charlene attended Saginaw Business Institute. She married the love of her life, Karl A. Hock on February 17, 1962; he preceded her in death on September 20, 2015. Charlene was the owner and operator of her own drapery company for over 20 years. The role of her lifetime was to be a loving wife, devoted mother, and a caring grandmother. Charlene was a faithful and longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Midland, where she served on the Altar Guild and in their Cancer Support Group. She published a book “the years that changed our lives forever” written about her grandchildren. Charlene enjoyed knitting and painting nature, especially birds and flowers. Her little piece of heaven was going to her favorite beach on Lake Michigan in Pentwater. She will forever be remembered for her selflessness to those in need, for being a caring and giving spirit, and for living a wonderful life filled with love and beautiful memories.

Surviving are two daughters, one son, and their spouses: Carey and Kenneth Daubert of Freeland; Sandy and Jim Urbaniak of Hemlock; Neil and Dawn Hock of Hope; five grandchildren: Emily and Jon Roberts, Bob Daubert, Kurtis Hock, Cole Urbaniak, and Clay Urbaniak; two brothers, and their spouses: Lloyd and Joyce Zastrow and Ken and Cheryl Zastrow; two sisters-in-law: Maxine Diener and Phyllis Mudd. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl A. Hock; parents, Clarence and Hilda Zastrow; a granddaughter, Clarissa Hock; sister, Ann (Art) Moore; two brothers-in-law, Howard Diener and Ned Mudd.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1550 Poseyville Road, Midland. Pastor Dennis Kreil will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N.
