Charlene R. VanderMeer

VanderMeer, Charlene Rae Saginaw, MI Daughter of the late Arthur and Wilma (Shilliday) Schaubel passed away January 27, 2015, at Cartwright Care Center at the age of 87. Charlene was born July 23, 1927, in Grand Rapids. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids in 1945. She married Edward VanderMeer on May 12, 1951. Char was a member of the Opti-Mrs. Club and the Saginaw County Association of Retired School Personnel. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kae and David Pankow of Hemlock; one son David and husband Brent of Atlanta, Georgia; three granddaughters, Janae and Dallas Smock, Sarah and Derek Hirschman of Midland, and Caryn VanderMeer of Irving, Texas; 3 great-grandsons, Bodhi, Barrett, and Bridger Smock; and many other close family members and friends. She was predeceased by her sister Ardeth Ann Mendels on April 4, 2003. The family would like to thank the nurses of Covenant Healthcare 3 main and ICU, the Cartwright Care Center, and her special caregivers Pam Menzl and Sharon Dinse for the wonderful care and love they provided to Charlene. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 121 S. Harrison. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Friends may visit with the family at W.L. Case & Company 201 N. Miller Road on Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
