Charles E. Albrecht Saginaw, Michigan Beloved father, grandparent, great-grandparent, brother, uncle and friend passed away on February 24, at the age of 90 years.
The son of the late Elwyn and Mary (Street) Albrecht, Charles was born on July 12, 1934, in Saginaw. He graduated from Arthur Hill HS, the class of 1952. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the Army, serving his country until 1957. Afterwards he worked at Detroit Ball Bearing. He later retired from General Motors, working at Saginaw Steering Gear.
Playing baseball was a true passion, he played ball whenever possible, through his youth in Zilwaukee through the late 60’s, playing minor league in Saginaw. Charles also enjoyed golf, playing in two leagues at Beech Hollow, in Freeland, for decades. He was especially proud of accomplishing two holes in one! In the winter he enjoyed bowling, until figuring out FL in the winter beats shoveling snow. Charles was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for over 75 years, serving in many capacities. He was a member of the American Legion of Saginaw, Post #0439, for 34 years. He also was an inaugural/lifetime voting member of the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame. His love for the Detroit Lions encouraged him to become a season ticket holder in 1982, with Charles making the trek to the Pontiac Silverdome, and then later Ford Field in Detroit. The Detroit Lions honored Charles this past January with a commemorative football, celebrating his 42 years as a Loyal Lions Member.
Surviving are children: Brent Albrecht of Plymouth MI; Bridget (Robert) Smith of Ft. Myers FL; five grandchildren: Brandon and Breanna Smith, Corinne, Lucas, and Adam Albrecht; two great-grandchildren: Everly and Emmett Smith; siblings: Gail (Duncan) McDonald of Holland, MI; Jean (Leland) Wendt of Frankenmuth, MI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Roger.
A priority for Pops/PaPa (as known by his grandchildren in FL & MI), was supporting them in all their activities, they will remember him as a great fan (and many times financial supporter) of their sports, Brownies, art fairs, school plays and dance recitals. His unintentional creation of the beloved “Chuck Stories” will be dearly missed.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, 318 S. Franklin Street, Zilwaukee. Rev. Scott A. Muske will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors being rendered under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #0439.
