Charles Smith Grand Rapids, formerly of Saginaw, MI Passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, age 80 years. The son of the late Charles and Wanda (Ward) Smith was born on October 24, 1935 in Saginaw. Chuck married Patricia Roesler on February 4, 1961; she predeceased him on January 1, 2003. He served in the USAF from 1954-1957 and retired from Saginaw Transmission after 30 years of service. Chuck enjoyed watching sports (MSU and U of M): football, boxing and Detroit Tiger's baseball. He was a great gardener and cook. Surviving are a son, John Smith, a daughter, Catherine Smith, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, two brothers: Jerold Smith and Paul (Patricia) Smith, two sisters: Lucille Hardy, Helen Carley, a brother-in-law James Obermiller, a sister-in-law Connie Smith, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters: Leo (Minnie) Smith and Robert Smith, Marie (Bob) Weiss, Shirley Obermiller, sister-in-law Marilyn Smith, and two brothers-in-law: Charles Hardy and William Carley. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
