Charles Frank Francetic, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on February 8, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Charlie was born in Saginaw, MI on September 15, 1919 to the late Anthony and Julia (Marohnic) Francetic and grew up in the rural Merrill, MI area. He is preceded in death by siblings George, Joe, Tom, Bill, and Anna (Francetic) Demeulemester. Charles served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II, spending nearly four years in the South Pacific Theatre. As a member of the 72nd Fighter Squadron, Charles spent time in Hawaii, Makin Atoll, Iwo Jima, and Saipan. Upon returning from the War, Charles married Almeda Clark on December 1, 1945. They spent sixty-nine wonderful years together as not only husband and wife but as best friends as well. Charles's family was his pride and joy. He and Almeda had two daughters, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and dozens of others who were lucky enough to call him cousin, uncle, and friend. Charlie was above all else a happy person, someone who spread light and laughter to all those around him. Whether it was telling a joke or playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he remained eternally young at heart and never failed to bring a smile to everyone's face. In addition to spending thirty years working at the Dow Chemical Corporation, Charles was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Merrill, MI where he served for many years as lodge Tyler and several times as Worshipful Master. He was a member of Merrill Congregational Christian Church where he served as Usher, and he was a pillar of the entire community, touching countless lives and brightening countless people's days. Charles is survived by his wife Almeda (Clark) Francetic, siblings Rudy, John, Jim, and Alice (Francetic) Gorney, daughters Janice (Charles) Gross and Joanne (John) Perko, grandchildren Phyllis (Don) Wallen, Zachary (Lori) Grasley, Nina Perko, John Perko, and Joseph Grasley, and great grandchildren Julia, Luke, Logan, and Valerie Grasley, and Breanna, Nathan, and Heather Wallen. A memorial service to celebrate Charles's life will take place at Merrill Congregational Christian Church in Merrill, MI on Thursday February 19, 2015. Visiting and sharing of memories will occur from 12:00 - 2:00 PM, and the memorial service will take place at 2:00 PM with a meal to follow.
