Charles passed away at his home, peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday July 25, 2020 at the age of 72. He was born on May 20, 1948 to the late Charles Knapp Sr. and Helen Knapp (Hanczewski) in Saginaw. Charles graduated from Arthur Hill Tech, class of 1966, he served in the United States Army from 1968-1969. During his time serving our country he earned several medals; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal and a Bronze star with V Device. After being honorably discharged, Charles attended Delta College.
On March 4, 1972 Charles married Diann Fuerst in Whittemore, Michigan. The two shared 48 wonderful years together. Charles spent his working years as a welder, being employed with Combustion Engineering for nearly six years before working for Buick for over 20 years. He retired in 2006. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, biking and traveling with his wife Diann. Charles was a family man; he cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He spent much of his time attending their activities and sporting events as well as taking them for ice cream.
He is survived by his wife Diann and their two children Scott (Katherine) Knapp and Amy (Joshua Guilbeaux) Knapp. Charles is also survived by his grandchildren Abigail and Samantha Knapp; his sisters, Mary Ellen Petrie, Nancy (Pat) Houlihan, his sister in law Marcia Knapp and his brother in law Roger Kramer as well as many nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by his brother William Knapp, his sister Barbara Kramer, and his brother in law Jack Petrie.
Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. No services will be held. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Covenant Visiting Nurses Hospice.
