Charlotte Damuth

Charlotte Damuth Charlotte (Litzinger) Damuth, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and respected teacher, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in Saginaw. She was born March 25, 1921, in Johnstown, Pa., and married John E. (Jack) Damuth on May 11, 1946, in Johnstown. The family moved to Saginaw in 1961, and Charlotte taught typing, shorthand and accounting at Arthur Hill High School, retiring as head of the business department in 1985. Her students respected her exacting style, and she in turn poured her considerable energies into ensuring their success. And her work followed her home she often left notes for family members that they couldn't decipher, as they were written in shorthand. Charlotte was a skilled bridge player, a member of several bridge clubs and avid participant in bridge activities at Germania Town and Country Club and the Saginaw Club. She also delighted in online bridge, engaging in games internationally and was frequently victorious in much younger circles. Ever the teacher, she also spent many happy hours playing cards with her granddaughters, passing on her proficiency. She and Jack and their friends were a Friday-night fixture at Germania, enjoying dinner and socializing. But family was her greatest joy, and she expressed it in the kitchen with outstanding dinners and fancy sandwiches for the granddaughters when they came for lunch. Over the years, painting Easter eggs with her girls was a highlight for all and ritual of spring. Surviving are her son, Thomas E. Damuth, M.D., and his wife, Culli, Saginaw; and her granddaughters and their families Clare Furlo and her husband, Paul, and daughters, Estella and Aria, Saginaw; and Dr. Emily Damuth and her husband, Dr. Chris Jones, and daughter, Leah Charlotte, of Haddonfield, N.J. She is also survived by nephews Dr. Jim Billick, of Overland Park, Kan., and Dr. John E. Damuth, Coppell, Texas. Her husband, Jack, and two sisters, Emily Edelmann, and Marion Billick, preceded her in death. Her family thanks Dr. James LaFleur and the Cobblestone staff at The Manors for the superb and compassionate care Charlotte received. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Saginaw, and the funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Rev. Dr. Robert Emrich will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 121 S.
