Wenzel, Chester A. Secord Lake, Gladwin, Michigan Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015, at his home, at the age of 100 years. He was born December 31, 1914, in Thomas Township, the son of the late Otto and Catherine (Callahan) Wenzel. He married Gertrude Fletcher in 1935; she predeceased him in 1991. He retired from Baker Perkins after 24 years of service. He made his retirement home with his daughter and son-in-law at Secord Lake since 1991. Chet had been a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Saginaw and of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gladwin. In his later years, he followed St. Thomas Aquinas Outreach Mass from Lansing, Michigan. He was an active supporter of Sacred Heart Missions. Chet was the oldest living member of the Secord Lake Eagles Aerie #4121. He enjoyed Secord Lake, boating, fishing, and watching television. He loved his family, and was proud to have lived to see five generations of Wenzels. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Karen Wenzel, Ruskin, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Robert O. Town, Secord Lake; four grandchildren, Susan and her husband Michael Smith, Lori Wenzel, Jennifer Redkey-Choe, and Bob C. Town; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy (Jessica) Smith, Matthew (Megan) Smith, Katie (Jake) Lampen, Danielle Redkey, and Riley Choe; one great-great-grandson, Jack Smith; one brother, Bernard Wenzel; many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Roxann Town; a granddaughter-in-law, Tania Town; and by three sisters, Junella Bell, Frances Sloboda, and Catherine Bell. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Rd. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with entombment at Oakwood Mausoleum. Chet's family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd., from 2:00 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, where a vigil service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Friends and family may then call at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
