Beloved son, brother, grandson and uncle passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw with his parents by his side. He was 45 years old.
Christopher Douglas Thom was born on August 26, 1973 to Dale D. and Cindy L. (Schuler) Thom. He graduated from Merrill High School, class of 1991. He briefly attended Delta College. Chris was employed by McDonalds in Freeland as a manager. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hemlock. Chris was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved watching sports, especially football. He loved watching the Detroit Lions, Michigan Wolverines, and watching his nephews play as well.
Surviving are his parents, Dale and Cindy Thom; two sisters, Shanntelle (James) Knapik and Amy (Adam) Siler; his grandmother, Barbara Harder; and his beloved cat, Layla. Also surviving are his two nieces, Caitlyn Siler and Alexus Knapik; and three nephews, Korbin, Robert and Kaiden Knapik. He was preceded in death by Alan and Elda Thom, Robert Koeppen, and Alfred Smith.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, 17927 Dice Rd. Hemlock, MI. Rev. Paul Hauser will officiate. Burial will follow in Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to visit at the W. L. Case and Company Chapel, 125 E. Saginaw St. Merrill, MI on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. He will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the family, c/o Dale and Cindy Thom.
