Clarence Ray Curtindale Harrison, Michigan Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan Clarence departed his earthly life and joined his wife in their eternal heavenly home, on Friday, October 13, 2017 in Clare, Michigan at the age of 102 years 1 month and 26 days. He lived in his own house until the day he became ill while at his sons home for a few games of cribbage and daily dinner. God was good and he was only ill for 36 hours before he was called home. He began his life on August 17, 1915 in Ocqueoc Twp. Presque Isle Co., MI the son of Cecil Gerald Curtindale and Elizabeth Hannah nee Everingham . The family moved to Saginaw when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1932. On November 9, 1935 he married Thelma Virginia Lakin who predeceased him in June of 2000. They were blessed with a daughter Virginia and a son Edward. They joined the First Baptist Church of Saginaw in 1947 and he was baptized in 1949 by Rev. Biastock. He served on the Board of Ushers for over 35 years and ran the sound system during the worship services. He was honored in April of 2006 for being among other members that had been active members for over 50 years. He attended that church until it was reorganized as the Beacon of Hope Baptist Church. They were meeting in temporary quarters in a school and he was not able to attend there later on in life as the walking distance was too great. He remained a member until his death. Clarence and Thelma both became active in 4-H Clubs in Saginaw County and remained active until Thelmas death. They were honored by the Altrusa Club with the Outstanding Citizens Award in 1988. This was the first time in the history of the Altrusa Club that the award was presented to a couple instead of an individual. Clarence was active in several bodies of the Masonic Order, including; Life member of Pioneer Lodge #79 F. Saginaw Valley Chapter # 31 R.A.M.; Saginaw Valley Council # 20 R. St. Bernards Commandery #16 K.T.;N.E. MI York Rite College #16; Life Member of Bay City Consistory A. A.S.R.; Grand Commanders Club; Michigan Council of Thrice Illustrious Masters; Grand Council of High Priesthood of the State of Michigan; Knights of the York Cross of Honor; Priory 22; MI Past Commanders Association Knights Templar. Clarence worked at General Motors in Saginaw, at Baker Perkins for 30 years and at Saginaw General Hospital (now Covenant-Cooper) as a Stationary Engineer for 15 years. He is survived by a daughter Virginia Sudhoff of Saginaw, MI and a son Edward (Barbara) of Harrison, MI. Grandchildren Cynthia (James II) Szott, of Saginaw, MI Kelly Cool of Holly, MI , Edward II (Diane) Curtindale of Carbondale, CO., Candice (Gordon) McIntosh of Bay City, MI, Kristi Kish of Harrison, MI . Great grandchildren, James Szott III, Courtney Szott, Tyler Cool (fiancee Amber Boyle), Andrew Curtindale, Lindsay Cool, Brandi Kish, Jacob McIntosh, Hannah McIntosh. Extended family Keigan Cool and Amanda Kish (fiance Travis OConnor), many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, in-laws Edward "Ted" and Effie Schlicht Lakin, wife Thelma, 2 brothers Albert and Gerald, 3 sisters, Barbara Kube, Fay Haenlein, Ardee Parkin and a son-in-law, Harold Sudhoff. He was well thought of and a respected man by all that knew him. He will be missed. Well done thou good and faithful servant. Rest in Peace. Cremation has taken place per his wishes. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Saginaw, MI 48603. Visitation will be from 1:00-7:00 p.m. Private inurnment burial will take place on Monday in the Masonic Circle of Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Saginaw, MI.
