Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Covenant HealthCare. She was 84 years old. Claudia Amanda Frader was born on March 14, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Henry Ernest and Alma Amanda (Stier) Frader. She was a proud 1955 graduate of Vassar High School. Claudia met the love of her life, Jerome “Jerry” Garvey, while waitressing at Mallory’s Restaurant in Richville. They were united in marriage on December 1, 1956; he preceded her in death on December 16, 2009. Claudia was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Parish – St. Christopher Catholic Church. She managed Fanny Farmer Candy store for 22 years before retiring. Claudia was also employed with Kmart for several years. She was an extraordinary cook, Claudia knew exactly how many cups of love, dashes of care, and pinches of kindness needed to make a meal taste great. She also enjoyed canning, gardening, camping, and playing games with family and friends. She will forever be remembered for her love of family, her innate ability to connect with all people, and for the faithfulness and appreciation she had for life.
Surviving are six children: Kathy Paez, Mike (Michelle) Garvey, Tom Garvey, Patty Wolf, Ronnie Garvey, and Lisa (Ed) Garcia; six grandchildren: Jason (Amanda) Garvey, Jennifer Allen and her fiancé Adam Sutter, Ryan Garvey, Austin Garvey, Sara Miller, and Stacy (Jake) Bain; 10 great-grandchildren; dear friends: Rick Paez, Kathy Muir, Robert Allen, and Buster. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Paez; son-in-law, Donald Wolf.
A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at St. Francis de Sales Parish, St. Christopher Catholic Church, 3945 Williamson Rd., Saginaw, Michigan, 48601. Rev. Fr. John Mancini, OSFS will officiate. Honoring Claudia’s wishes cremation will follow the service. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services ordinance, masks are required, limitations on the number of those gathering will be observed, and social distancing encouraged. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church or National Kidney Foundation.
