Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, at the age of 84. Connie was born on February 6th, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Albert & Alvina (Beckmann) Spitz and was a 1957 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. She met Roger Ellsworth through the Michigan Avenue Baptist Church and once she set her sights on him it wasn’t long before they were inseparable. The couple would marry February 9th, 1957, and spend over 66 years together building up a big happy family. He survives her. Connie continued her education after high school, earning an associate degree from Delta College. Throughout her working years, Connie wore a number of different hats. She was a bus driver for the Carrollton School District, worked as a tax preparer for Bell Tax Service and Jim Damman Tax Service, and owned the Gingham Cake Shop.
This last role was one she fit in best of all. Throughout her life, Connie lived to support and serve her friends, family, and community. She loved to cook, bake, and can, sharing her passion with those around her and making sure no one ever went hungry. Connie was the hospitality chair for Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, hosting parties and events for the congregation where she was a proud member. She was awarded the Woman of the Year by the American Baptist Churches of Michigan in 2019, in part for her caring, selfless nature. Throughout everything, Connie made sure everything was done “just right,” paying great attention to all the details involved in her many contributions to the community, and her door was always open to anyone. Most importantly, she was a great mother to her three children, always making sure they were provided for and “rich in their parent’s affection.” She supported them in their membership in the Saginaires Drum & Bugle Corp, driving bus for the organization, sewing uniforms, helping fundraise, and making sure every member of the Corp had the support and love they deserved. Connie also enjoyed camping, fishing, reading romance novels, and gardening. She especially loved her flowers. She is remembered as being a spunky and opinionated woman who was very giving with her time and attention, and who nourished the family that blossomed up around her and Roger.
Connie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Roger Ellsworth; children R. Mark (Denise) Ellsworth, Cyndi (Jody) James, and Cheryl Ellsworth; grandchildren Alex (Kristen) Ellsworth, Zachary Ellsworth, Cole Ellsworth, and Destiny (Chad) Reikowsky; great grandchildren Mason Helpap, Logan Ellsworth, and Henry Ellsworth; siblings Linda Storch, Debbie (Doug) King, Tammi (David) Hollis; sisters-in-law Shirley Spitz and Judy Spitz; and brother-in-law Hiram “Terry" Ellsworth; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and the countless friends whose lives she touched throughout the years.
Connie was preceded in death by siblings Rodney Spitz, Dianne Ellsworth, and Robert Spitz.
In accordance with Connie’s wishes, cremation is to take place, with a memorial service at 11:00am on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, at Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, 203 S Michigan Ave, Saginaw, MI 48602 . Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00am until the time of service. Those wanting to make a show of their sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to Michigan Avenue Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. Please share your thoughts, prayers, and memories with the family at the church or through www.casefuneralhome.com.
