Constance “Connie” Mae Hutfilz of Hemlock, Michigan
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at King’s Daughters Home of Midland. She was 85 years old. Constance Mae Weaver was born on September 10, 1934, in Petoskey, Michigan, the seventh of nine children born to the late Ward Wesley and Hope (Boynton) Weaver. She was raised in Wolverine, Michigan where she graduated as valedictorian with the class of 1952. While working as a waitress at a diner in Wolverine, she met the love of her life, Donald Paul Hutfilz. Following his return from the Korean War, Connie and Donald were united in marriage on September 17, 1954, celebrating 47 years wonderful years; he preceded her in death on November 14, 2001. She worked for over 30 years as a librarian with Rauchholz Memorial Library where she enjoyed communicating and helping people discover the world of books. Connie was a member of Hemlock United Methodist Church (Four Points Church). She was an amazing cook and homemaker and took great pride in keeping the home clean, running a smooth household, and passing these values on to her children. In her later years, she and Donald enjoyed traveling. Above all, Connie loved and cherished being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will forever be remembered for her love and compassion to all she loved.
Surviving are four daughters and one son: Sandra (Robert) Lehmann of Midland; Debra (David) Scutt of Mason; Teresa Martinez of Clearwater, FL; Barbara (Steven) Haltom of Hemlock; Robert (Doug Boliver) Hutfilz of Dallas, TX; ten grandchildren: Christine (Justin) Dyjak, Danielle Haltom, Alex Haltom, Jonathan (Jaclyn) Lehmann, Allison Martinez, Amanda Martinez, C.J. Martinez, Malissa Russo, John (Brenda) Scutt, Steven (Ian Stalling) Scutt; seven great-grandchildren: Austin, Colt, David, Jacob, Tyler, Isabella, Grace; two sisters: Betty (Ward) Burrows, Shirley (Bud) Lemke.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters: William, John, Richard, Robert, Gloria, and Gerry.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you for the staff at King’s Daughters Home and Heartland Hospice for all the loving care they provided to Connie and the family.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Four Points Church (Hemlock United Methodist), 406 W. Saginaw Street, Hemlock. Pastor Rob Richards will officiate. Honoring Connie’s wishes burial has taken place at Richland Township Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Rauchholz Memorial Library, King’s Daughters Home of Midland, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
